Komplekt is a cultural management and consultancy agency focused on design and other creative practices. The Studio generates content and manages self-initiated as well as commissioned projects.
In episode 10 we have as guest Assoc. Prof. Yana Dvoretska, lecturer at New Bulgarian University, Design Department.
Along with teaching, Yana Dvoretska creates costumes for opera and ballet. In 2009 she launched the sustainable fashion brand YOD, focused on ethical and ecological practices in slow fashion creation. Through it Yana experiments with natural dyes, eco-printing and various authentic hand textile and colour processing techniques, with the end goal always being a product of good design and high quality. Her personal mission is to create fashion that lives beyond a season.
Yana is among the organizers of the international competition for young fashion designers IDEAMODA, whose fourth edition is taking place in 2024.
We talk about the consequences of the production and distribution of fast fashion, one of the main industrial polluters on a global scale. We seek to answer the question of what is the role of design in the vicious and debilitatingly fast process of production and pollution, and how slow and regenerative can establish itself as the norm in the fashion industry. We find out more about the principles of slow fashion, why it's important to be aware about what and how we buy, when a garment is considered old and what are the small revolutions in the industry that have the potential to bring about big changes.
